Magellan (was?) charging for highway (traffic jams, etc.) information.
My recent trip from NH to FL I found I was getting information about
some traffic conditions (I never subscribed, didn't see a value in
it), and wondered if Magellan is now giving the info for free as some
of their competitors are doing?

(Btw if this is so, the value IMHO is rather limited... Most cases the
suggestion that one bypass a problem usually came too late to be of
much value!)

I don't know but maybe this goes along with a question I have every time I
review the options in my 4250. Is there an advantage in turning on
"Traffic avoidance" if I do NOT have a "Traffic subscription" ??

I assumed not but maybe there is something to be gained......however small.
I seldom travel in areas with "traffic service" so for me, probably not.

Basically my situation, around here (NH) nothign useful so why bother.
Most hits I got were CT to VA with a hit or two south of there.

I do this trip a couple of times a year and have noticed my 4250 do
some interesting things... <g>

Like:

1. Returning home, south of Hartford on the interstate. Both trips
(summer and last week) the blasted thing rebooted in *exactly* the
same spot! Not driving time related that I can tell, since I stopped
at different times on both trips. But the reboot was in the same spot
almost exactly!

2. One time it seemed to loose the connectivity between the GPS
section and the mapping section. Unit responded jsut fine, but didn't
see the GPS signals. Said it had a 3D fix, tracking satellites, but
nothing... Of course it happened at the worst possible time, when I
was lost! Powered down, then back on, and all was fine. Strange.
